Conventional therapy is often substituted with alternative heath therapy. Mainstream medical treatment and alternative or complimentary therapy has become part of integrated treatment and today there is some very high quality scientific verification in safety and efficacy aspects. You have recourse to healing in certain areas when you use alternative lines of treatment when it is not really addressed in conventional medicine. These other therapies include herbal and folk medicine, homeopathy, diets, faith and new age healing, chiropractic treatment, massages, naturopathy, music therapy and more. Conventional medical treatment is replaced by these therapies hoping that they would have some better results in having the disease cured.
Quality of life and general health improves with alternative health therapies. It relaxes you by reducing your anxiety, stress, depression, sleeplessness and tension. They can even help to reduce the symptoms of cancer, such as pain, feeling sick, breathlessness, constipation, diarrhea, tiredness and poor appetite as well as help to moderate some of the side effects of traditional cancer treatment.
They alleviate pain which could conceal a grave situation and this is a possibility as today they are frequently used with traditional medicine. Some hospitals provide chemotherapy and radiotherapy as part of cancer care; these are conventional cancer treatments and are offered by some social support organizations for free or at a small fee. Several of the people that now have cancer are known to use all of these therapies in order to help support them throughout the stages of cancer and the treatment itself. These therapies are very valuable in that they identify and support spiritual and emotional characteristics and physical features, but they should not be used as the only alternative line of treatment.
Americans for example, now spend billion annually on alternative health products such as vitamins and herbs. In a study conducted by Davis, Eisenberg, Phillips and Tindle in 2005 it is specified that complementary and alternative therapies are used approximately by 72 million people in America. Herman, Craig, & Caspi in the year 2005 have shown that more than billion annually is spent on alternative therapies.
It is important, however, for best results that the alternative health therapy providing the most effective treatment be used. For many people that suffer from MND or Motor Neuron Disease, individual therapies have been conducted and have proven to actually improve the overall quality of life for these individuals, these individual therapies can include: aromatherapy, acupuncture, homeopathy, massage, hypnotherapy, reiki, meditation and reflexology. It is always a good idea to consult your physician before considering any of the alternative therapies available, and it is important to double check that any additional treatment undertaken will not adversely affect any current treatment program you are on.
When integrating alternative therapies with conventional treatment and therapies, it is extremely important to be honest and open with the treating health care team and physician. You could even find out from your physician if he is qualified to practice any of these therapies. Many doctors are getting convinced that complementary medicine still has its own place in the society. These types of therapies help some people in fighting with the side effects of conventional treatment like anxiety and gives them hope and control over life.
