Tae Kwon Do Vs. Muay Thai

Why is it that Muay Thai practicioners and Tae Kwon Do practicioners so often get compared to one another?

This and other questions are covered an article from the Sports section of Associated Content, Feb. 25, 2009.

The article outlines three basic points to consider: 1. The nature of the style, 2. The training of the combatants and finally, 3. The rules of the competition.

The author goes into some detail on all three points and ultimately concludes that though any novice of either tradition could be beaten by the other, but Muay Thai is the more devastating of the two.

Associated Content is a site that allows users to submit articles and become content contributors. If you would like to rebut this and other tae kwon do related articles that don't get it "quite right" you can go on over and set the world straight.

Or you can visit the smaller, exclusive, martial arts article directory: ArticleDoJo where you can directly submit martial arts articles for any style. Their directory is smaller but growing and they need help with articles on all sorts of martial arts styles. I have submitted a couple in the taekwondo category. You can create blogs there as well.

You Know You Need To Get Healthy

By Jimm Goodspel

We all know that we should be exercising. Routine exercise is the key to weight loss. When we exercise we burn calories. Exercise is most effective when we are burning more calories than we take in. There are many reasons we should be exercising.

You should be exercising to avoid disease. The odds of developing diseases such as heart disease and diabetes have been proven to decrease when you exercise. Exercise can also decrease your levels of HDL cholesterol, triglyceride levels and your blood pressure. If you are at risk for a stroke exercising will decrease that risk dramatically.

We have all heard about a magic pill that can help us drop pounds in matter of weeks. The truth is no pill can do what exercise can do for you. Many of us have also been caught up in the latest diets in hopes of losing weight. While a proper diet is important to maintain a healthy weight, it does little to help you if you are not exercising. Weight loss comes from burning calories. We must exercise to be sure we are burning enough calories.

Exercise not only benefits your body but, it also benefits your mind. Those who stick to their exercise routine have shown an increase in their endorphin levels. As a result they are less likely to become depressed.

Serotonin levels have also shown an increase during regular exercise. Serotonin aids in decreased depression. Those who exercise also experience increased energy. Increased energy translates a more productive lifestyle at work and at home.

If you suffer from poor self esteem exercising can give you a boost. Those who exercise begin to look better. When you have a favorable impression of how you look, you feel better. A higher self esteem results in better social relations.

Whether you are depressed, have a poor self esteem or are overweight; exercise is the answer. Don't wait to start a program. You can exercise at home or the gym but, just make sure that you stick with it. It will eventually become a part of your everyday routine, and that's how you know you are on the right track for life.

Ayurveda's premise that mind, body and spirit are connected

If you are interested in the best herbs for what ails you, I carry more information on herbal remedies at Alternatively Healthier.
By Susan Atkinson

Although Ayurveda is practiced in India as a comprehensive health care system with eight branches, including pediatrics and gynecology, it has only recently become known in the United States. Ayurveda's premise that mind, body, and spirit are intimately connected is revolutionizing the way Westerners understand their body and their health. But, as we travel through life, diet, environment, stress, trauma, and injury cause the doshas to become imbalanced, a state known as the "vikrti" state. When levels of imbalance are excessively high or low, ill health can result. Some of these have now become full-fledged resorts themselves (e.g. Typically there are two sessions a day for about 2 hours each.

Kapha dosha, formed by the combination of water and earth elements, is responsible for growth. Food can affect a person's dosha levels because food is also made up of the five basic elements and can be predominantly Vata, Pitta or Kapha. Ayurveda is firmly embedded in Indian philosophy and its theory of evolution, according to which the universe is composed of five basic elements, namely: ether, air, fire, water and earth. These are present in all things, and in the human body they manifest as doshas.

Great attention is paid to the interaction between the personal constitution of the patient, the time, and the diet. The patient's regimen must change with the time of the year, and the food eaten and the exercise taken must be in sympathy with it. Although it reflects your ability to adjust to life's influences and is always changing, it should match your prakruti, or inborn constitution, as closely as possible. If the current proportion of your doshas differs significantly from your constitutional proportion, it indicates imbalances, which in turn can lead to illness. It's a very harmonious relationship taking into account individual constitution, effect of time, effect of age, diet and habits you have acquired over a period of time. This is how ayurveda looks at life.

Ayurveda (Sanskrit: ayu-life; veda-knowledge of) or ayurvedic medicine is a more than 2,000 year old comprehensive system of medicine based on a holistic approach rooted in Vedic culture. Its conspicuous use of the word veda, or knowledge, reveals its role in early Hinduism and describes its hallowed place in India. Have you ever marveled at their culture and their way of life? There are many countries such as Thailand, India and even Costa Rica that have hidden treasures you may not be aware of. In ayurvedic culture, ginger is both a common ingredient in many dishes and a frequently used ingredient for medicinal preparations. Ginger is said to be a great digestive aid, easing gas and heartburn symptoms quickly.

The herbs used for dryskin are vata oil application for thirty days without missing. For overheating issues and redness release old anger and use one ounce of aloe vera juice regular. Regular bath with oil is supposed to keep dis-eases away, according to Ayurveda routine. Ayurveda operates on the precept that various materials of plant, animal, and mineral origin have some medicinal price. I was not comfortable by the oil. I read a lot.

Following Ayurveda in one's daily life translates to a healthy living in perfect harmony with the inner self, mind, body and nature. Being an ancient science, Ayurveda evolved thousands of years ago through observations and experiences based on solid principles and philosophy and a perfected documentation procedure. It is the laws of nature as they affect health; therefore properly speaking anything that promotes health is Ayurveda. The goal of Ayurveda is perfect health defined as completely balanced mind and body and blissful awareness. Here is a partial list of the health problems that we treat. Select a topic to find out more about it.

How Exercise Increases Fitness and Boosts the Immune System

You know that exercise is good for you, that's why you study tae kwon do. But if you had any doubts, here is another article about the benefits of exercise and it's impact on our immune system. Very good news, especially give the snow storm on the East coast that's reminded us that winter is not yet over.  ka

By Kat Wendersen

Often, matters of health and wellness are issues that are oft-contested hardly ever get resolved. New research often makes headway, disproving much of what we previously held true almost immediately. However, if there's one subject matter that isn't under contention, it is the relationship between the immune system and physical exercise.

After all, there is no existing claim that any sort of exercise has ever dampened the strength of the immune system. On the other end, a huge wealth of literature is available regarding the ability of moderate physical activity to strengthen the immune system, regardless of how indirect the effects are.

As exercise helps lower stress and boost one's energy, these findings have become a staple in medical science. While there are some details that tend to have studies contradict one another in this department, the general facts remain the same. Regular exercise can enhance the immune system by keeping stress down.

Most studies carried out over the last 30 years agree: a continual high level of stress has a number harmful effects on overall health. People who experience high stress get more colds, suffer more digestive tract problems and have more frequent bouts of fatigue. Part of the latter is indirect, since it tends to lead to lowered amounts of restful sleep.

Regular exercise helps relieve stress. It does so directly, by providing an outlet for, and consuming much of, the nervous energy produced by stress. It also helps indirectly by shifting one's focus away from the external factors producing the stress.

Exercise, needless to say, helps with cardiovascular health as it enhances blood circulation, which causes toxins to be flushed away from the body. It also keeps the kidneys and endocrine system working perfectly, as well as take out germs and keep antibodies moving.

These positive effects all lead to a good immune system that can fight disease better, which lets you become healthier by boosting your defenses and also avoid sickness in the first place.

Exercising increases the body temperature slightly. This, as anyone who has suffered from a cold knows, is the body's natural response to colds, flu and other diseases. The increased temperature helps kill the infecting organisms.

A study at the University of Colorado, Boulder has shown that regular exercise can help you avoid catching colds. While this may be hard to believe, it starts to make sense when it has been proven that people with high levels of stress start to become healthier and less sick upon engaging in a regular exercise routine. However, those who haven't done regular exercise lately won't get as much benefits.

The study was carried out on rats, but one of the reasons those mammals are used is the similarity in some systems, and their responses, to humans.

Consistent observance of exercise routines on a daily basis can lead to many benefits like looking and feeling good. Such benefits can give anyone higher levels of self-confidence and composure during different situations through their lives. With this, it helps decrease stress levels as well as anxiety is replaced by a calm and confident demeanor.

Whether the effects are direct or indirect, exercising can help you support and enhance your immune system. That leads directly to better overall health.

Martial Arts Schools - How to Choose the Right One

By Patrick Consing

Have you been looking for the right martial arts school in New York? Due to the fact that there are many diverse cultures, one is sure to find many different influences ranging from Chinese, Japanese, Filipino, Korean...you name it. This can make it quite difficult because there are many martial arts schools and styles so choosing the right one can seem like a chore without the right information. Studying martial arts requires specific steps. Choosing a martial arts school also requires the same process. Don't get frustrated and take it easy because if you are serious and plan to stick to a style, you have to be certain about the martial arts school you choose.

The following guide was put together by us to assist anyone interested in finding the right martial arts school for them as well as the specifics of learning what is required of the signing up process. Setting aside some time now for research and some phone calls will save you a ton of heartache later when you choose the best school for you the first time. Many schools actually have limits on the amount of applications they accept so don't be surprised. Reviewing what you read here will help you immensely in being prepared for interviews as well as what to look out for while at the school itself.

Before you even begin you need to decide what it is that you want out of martial arts training. Why are you even considering this? Did you see a cool Jet Li movie or watched the Bourne trilogy (a style we specialize in and consulted for)? Have you seen some of these actresses lately and the shape they are in and know martial arts training can get you in shape while having fun? Maybe you are concerned in protecting yourself or teaching your children better discipline. You will want to tell that to the instructor so that they can get a better understanding of where you stand. You will need to determine your goals and set out for them.

Knowing what you want and talking with your instructor can make it so much easier to decide if their school is the right choice for you. Both you and the instructor should be on the same page so there will not be any surprises in the future. Martial arts schools that sign up everyone that walks in are something you should look out for. Your best interest is usually not their concern. Save your money and join the local gym if that's what you are looking for.

Determining the style or type of martial art you will be training in is the next step, some choose this first but the school itself will determine your success much more than the style. An instructor can give you their opinion and listen to them as you will find that is your deciding factor. You may just hit it off right away and that's a good enough reason to sign up. What you thought you liked may not be what it was cracked up to be and a totally different style is better for you. Remember you'll immerse yourself in the culture and traditions of the style in order to be most successful.

Is there a particular style you wanted to learn? Korean,Filipino, Japanese, Thai, Chinese, or Brazilian? Having fun is your primary goal? Ask yourself these questions so that you'll be much more prepared when deciding on the right martial arts school for you. You will find that there are plenty of martial arts schools that are very strict and not appropriate for fun activities. Be careful in how you say some things in these schools as it is easy to offend them.

As you can see, there are many factors in deciding the right martial arts school for you. In the end, the best school is the one you feel the most comfortable in and you get along with the instructors. Even if you have to drive or commute a fair distance, how you feel and what you will learn can outweigh the inconvenience of the distance. Paying more now can save you the heartache of paying less and not learn a single thing. Time is your most valuable asset so try your best to choose wisely from the beginning and be quick to change if you think you are wrong.

Junk Food Won't Build Muscle

I was so disappointed by the title of this article. After all, I love junk food. Why can't someone invent a junk food that builds muscle? Do us all a favor. ka

By Jon Cardozo

You're probably tired of hearing this, but it never hurts to repeat an important concept. If you're serious about building large amounts of muscle, you need to increase your calories in order to give the body the necessary raw materials.

It's actually pretty simple when you think about it. If you want to remain at your current weight, then you simply need to try to eat the same number of calories that you burn on any given day. There are many great calculators on the Internet that can help you determine how many calories you need.

However, if you want to gain muscle, that means you need to eat more calories than your body is using up in a day. Still, you can't simply eat whatever you want and expect to gain large amounts of muscle. There is a method to the madness.

Seriously though, did you really expect to be able to hang out at your local Baskin Robbins all day and still build muscle like crazy? Well, you need to make much healthier choices in order to get the proper food in your diet. In addition to protein, you need healthy sources of carbohydrates and fats.

You have probably heard of the dangers of hydrogenated oils, or Trans fats. Well, these won't help you build muscle at all, and over time they actually increase your chances of heart disease. Sure, you can probably get away with a little bit, but you want to be careful. You want to be healthy and you're also trying to build muscle, so treat yourself like a world class athlete.

Foods high in refined sugar will also hamper your muscle building efforts. Excess sugar only has three possible outcomes in your body: it is burned immediately as fuel, it is stored as glycogen in the liver and the muscles, or it is converted to fat.

When you eat large amounts of sugar, the third outcome is inevitable. This is because your body cannot store very much glucose at one time, and you're unlikely to burn it all off if you are using high amounts of sugar.

Try to keep in mind the big picture and stick to the best foods possible. You're trying to maximize results, and not just get by with mediocre results.

Why Are Intestinal Bacteria Important?

It's funny that this article should come out now. I am writing a report now on how to cure yeast infections naturally for the website: CureYeastNaturally.com. The report is entitled "How to Get Rid of Yeast Infections Once and for All, Naturally".
Maintaining good balance of healthy bacteria is very important to our body's normal function. A body out of balance, is much more prone to health problems. ka

By Richard Bell

Intestinal Bacteria, widely known as Gut Flora are organisms that exist in our intestines and help us in being healthy and strong by performing various important functions. Generally a normal human being has about thirty trillion microorganisms in their stomach, of about more than five hundred different species. They perform as much work as any of our key organs, but they are normally they are forgotten about as one of the important factors responsible to keep us.

Our feces are about sixty percent bacteria that is the reason for doctors to ask for a sample when we suffer from intestinal illness. This is the most non-invasive manner in which tests can be run to help determine reason for an upset stomach.

When babies are born they have no bacteria in their system, however their body quickly picks up bacteria from the mom and surrounding environment, and within a few months their body is able to build up the healthy bacteria. Babies born by cesarean deliveries are seen to take longer to build up these bacteria as compared to babies born normally.

The bacteria in our stomach is responsible for several different tasks such as fermenting, maintaining a healthy immune system, regulating harmful bacteria, creating vitamins, and helping us in the storage of fats. The first thing they are responsible for is they are able to break down carbohydrates; as a result our body can absorb the nutrients from it. Without these bacteria, we would not be able to break down a lot of food that we eat, and therefore would need to eat more to stay healthy.

These bacteria also stop the dangerous bacteria to grow in our digestive tract. Due to the struggle in the tract between different types of bacteria for room, the bad bacteria are unable to grow up because the helpful bacteria do not allow them to have any space. Humans with no any intestinal bacteria could to get sick more often when compared to those with normal levels.

These bacteria are also helpful in building up our immune system so we dont fall sick. Due to a tolerance for healthy bacteria that we develop in our childhood, the immune system is proficient to battle the bad bacteria, therefore leaving behind only the good bacteria. These bacteria are also helpful in preventing from all sorts of allergies and inflammatory bowel disease.

However, these days the excessive usage of antibiotics and other medicines is upsetting our digestive system, as the medicines are not been able to distinguish between the different types of bacteria in our body and wipe out both the bad bacteria and the good. This is one of the main causes of diarrhoea and other illnesses of the bowel. While we may not be consuming antibiotics with intent, a lot of the dairy and meat we consume currently contains antibiotics, which are given to the animals to prevent illnesses. The use of Probiotics is now increasing to help the good bacteria thrive in the gut, since probiotics are able to help the bacteria in their functions by fighting harmful bacteria and boosting the immune system.

It is vital to be aware of the fact that not all bacteria are bad for us, and that our body has many millions of bacteria in it that are actually helping it stay healthy.

Taekwondo: the most popular martial art in the world!

Everything I read tells me it's true, but can you believe everything you read?

In this case yes.

Tae kwon do is the fastest growing and most popular martial art in the world. I would like to be able to say it's true because tae kwon do is the best martial art in the world. But that would be lying.

If I had to guess the reason why, it would probably be Olympic Tae kwon do Sparring.

The Olympics have increased the popular of taekwondo tremendously, which is a good thing, because more and more people are discovering the benefits of traditional tae kwon do training as a result.

If I love tae kwon do so much, why am I not willing to declare it's the best martial art in the world?

Although I love it dearly, I know there are many, many excellent martial arts out there. Any training in the martial arts is a good thing as far as I'm concerned. I don't really feel competitive about my art. I appreciate it's benefits and am always willing to share they "why" of it with others.

After all, a kick is a kick and a punch is a punch. It's how you deliver them that counts.
