Benefits of Vitamin E For Women's Health

By Alison Addy

This article is about the many benefits of Vitamin E and where we can get this vitamin from.

Vitamin E Should Not Be Forgotten

We need vitamins and minerals in order for us to stay strong and healthy. There are essential for a strong mind and body as well as for our overall well-being whether we are young and still growing or are adults. We've been reminded all our lives about the importance of vitamins. Each of them has a benefit, although we tend to overlook some of them. Vitamin E is an important fat-soluble vitamin that should not be overlooked. Of the different forms of Vitamin E, the most active form is alpha tocopherol.

Many Benefits of Vitamin E

Vitamin E has many important benefits, one of them being its role as an antioxidant. It is used as a neutralizer of the free radicals in our body that may damage or destroy our tissues and cells. Without this in our body, we are very susceptible to illnesses and disease. The work that Vitamin E does in making our circulatory system work better is invaluable. It helps the essential vitamins and minerals as well as the blood in our body to get distributed better. In turn, this improves our immune system to help us avoid sickness. Vitamin E is also used for proper blood clotting as well as quicker healing of wounds. This is important in the case of accidents where excessive bleeding can cause serious problems.

Benefits for Women

Vitamin E has been shown in different research to be helpful in lessening or controlling premenstrual syndrome. Premenstrual syndrome is a condition that affects millions of women prior to their menstrual cycle. It manifests itself in the way of symptoms such as headaches, cramps, upset stomach, bloating, migraines, irritability and many other symptoms. Benefits of Vitamin E are also the help it gives in decreasing different kinds of breast diseases, promoting healthier looking skin and decreasing coronary artery disease.

Vitamin E is a fat-soluble vitamin, which means it is stored in our liver until it is needed. Unlike water-soluble vitamins, which are lost when we urinate, fat-soluble vitamins like Vitamin E can become toxic if there is too much in our system. Before you consider taking supplements of Vitamin E, consult with your doctor first because you may be getting plenty of vitamin E in the foods you're eating. Some of the natural food sources for Vitamin E are vegetable oils, sunflower seeds, wheat germ, kiwi, whole grains, peanut butter, fish, leafy green vegetables, goat's milk and fortified breakfast cereals. As you can see from the list, most of us get many of these sources each day.

Building Massive Muscles

By Mick Hart

The best exercise for overall biceps mass is the standing barbell curl, and the standing barbell cheat-curl. The cheat curl involves using a heavy weight that you are not capable of lifting in strict form, such that you have to use the muscles of the upper body to 'swing' the weight up, i.e. cheating, but you only cheat just enough so that you can complete the curl: by only cheating just enough to complete the curl, the biceps are forced to work maximally throughout the movement.

If you cheat too much and swing the weight most, or all of, the way up, then you are defeating the purpose of the exercise, which is to make those biceps work maximally, and get them used to heavier weights that can be used in strict barbell curls.

The biceps are comprised of two separate muscular heads that require separate training techniques. The biceps peak is actually the outer head and you can confirm this through the following exercise: First put your biceps of one arm contracted as you might in a front biceps pose followed by putting a finger from the other hand on the peak of the muscle. Then, keeping your finger in position on the muscle, you just lower your arm to your side, resulting in your finger being positioned on the outside of your biceps, on the outer head.

Effective exercises for the outer head include concentration curls that curl inward toward the centre of the chest, narrow grip barbell- and preacher curls, and hammer curls. Hammer curls are performed with dumbbells with the thumb facing upward throughout the movement, and can be performed in a cross-body fashion such that the dumbbell is lifted across the body and finishes with the thumb uppermost, and the dumbbell against the chest. Hammer curls are also excellent for brachialis development, the brachialis being the muscle which lies under the biceps, and can be seen between the biceps and triceps in a rear double biceps pose.

The are three heads in both of our triceps muscles being the inner, medial (or 'lower' triceps) and outer heads. A really good exercise to help improve our lower triceps is weighted dips and dips with the arms straightened three-quarters of the way, but still keeping tension on the triceps throughout the exercise. The outer triceps will respond to movements only with the hands in a 'thumbs-up' position. A few favorable exercises would be triceps pressdowns with a rope, dumbbell kickbacks, dips, one-arm cable and pressdowns with the palm facing up, but there are a lot more to chose from.

The inner triceps will react to movements when the thumb is turned inward, including lying or standing barbell triceps extensions, one-arm cable pressdowns (palm downward), triceps pressdowns with a bar (palms facing down), close grip bench presses, as well as many others.

The arm muscles should never be over trained as these muscles are so important for exercising other parts of our body including the back and chest. While planning your workout routines this point should always be taken into consideration, for example that there are a few days between arms, back and chest workouts. A good tip is to do arms straight after shoulders or just on their own.

The amount of sets that are needed for arms to respond will differ in each person and can also depend on the intensity of the exercise and recovery time. This is something which you will have to experiment with until you start to see the right results.

How to Get Rid of a Black Eye

By Dark Sith

Maybe you just got slammed in the eye a few minutes ago and you haven't actually gotten a black eye yet, but expect one shortly. While you're waiting, you might as well deal with the pain and swelling.

A black eye is the result of a contusion, which is a fancy name for a bruise. Bruises occur whenever your body takes a sharp blow that breaks capillaries and causes blood to leak into surrounding tissues, collecting at the point of damage. Eventually, when blood leaks into the top layer of skin, it shows as purple. For some reason, when you get that purple bruising around an eye, people call it a black eye. We suppose "purple eye" just didn't sound right. And "black eye" is easier to remember than "bruising around the eye."

Black Eye Remedies

Black eyes commonly last for about a week. Should the above procedure not put you on the road to wellness after a few days, see a doctor. And certainly see a doctor if the blow to your anatomy results in blurred vision, pain in and around the eye, light sensitivity, or "floaters" in your field of vision. You may have gotten a concussion or done some serious damage to your eye. Also see the doc if any of the following show up in the next few days:

* Eye pain that's something more than the usual sensitivity from a bruise

* Increased redness

* Changes in vision

* Drainage from the eye

* Visible problems with the eyeball, such as bleeding

A few home remedies have been applied over the years. A century ago, leeches were put on your face to suck out the blood. (Just think of the reception you would get from your buddies coming into the office with a leech hanging from your cheek.) Then putting raw beefsteak on the black eye became all the rage. Some people still swear by that treatment, though they may not know the reason why it works - because the steak is cold coming out of refrigeration; a bag of frozen peas does the same thing and doesn't cost $8 a pound.

As for the embarrassment of explaining a black eye (people always assume, for some reason, it's the result of a well-placed knuckle sandwich), work on some excuses ahead of time. It's very nearly impossible to cover one up with make-up.

Admittedly, you could try wearing an eye patch or sporting dark glasses everywhere you go, but then you would have to explain the patch or the shades, especially when you're wearing them to business meetings. White theatrical greasepaint applied liberally to the entire face might work to cover that shiner, but mimes are even less welcome in business meetings than pirates or people with sunshades.

Why Practicing Yoga Is Great For Your Health and Stress Levels

By Christina Ingham

The Sanskrit word Yoga means Union, an entryway to balancing the spiritual, mental and physical aspects of the being. It has the distinction of being the oldest personal development technique known. Practiced for almost 5000 years, the body is gradually conditioned by emphasizing the strengthening of the mind and body, at the same time stimulating the soul - it is both a science and a philosophy.

Yogi and Yogini refer to male and female practitioners of yoga respectively. In practice this is an applied science of the body and mind and it is part of the six orthodox systems that make up Indian Philosophy. It is a vast subject and contains a great deal more than just sitting around in a lotus position just chanting along in unison.

Back problems and others arising from bad posture can be cured by yoga and it also reduces stress. The main reason this complementary therapy is used with cancer patients is the feeling of wellness it bestows. Many feel that the best time to perform the discipline is on an empty stomach, before any food is consumed in the morning.

This ancient holistic system has many styles to it and some are given below: Raja Yoga: This literally means kingly yoga and is one of the four main paths of yoga. The practice of this yoga is meditation and methods that help in controlling the body, mind, energy and the senses.

The Kundalini Yoga is a non stressful and safe practice which gives instant results. It is based on a set of special exercises or Kriyas. Hatha Yoga: the main components here are postures (asana) and breath control (pranayama).

The Sahaja yoga is based on the experience of self realization that resides within each individual. This is a unique way of meditating. The precision of therapeutic yoga and the foundations of traditional yoga come together in a heated room under the system of Moksha hot yoga.

Yoga is getting famous nowadays and is being practiced by both the young as well as the old people as it is good for people of all ages. Its growth and popularity as a form of exercise is due to the fact that here nothing is done to you, it is something you do to yourself. This is beneficial for pregnant women as it helps to make them more patient and increases elasticity.

Associated Press and Fit Yoga claim the discipline is increasing in popularity among soldiers for improving stamina, mental focus and flexibility. This discipline brings about a general well-being and inner harmony and physical exercise is not its end.

Does Apitherapy Work?

By Karen Graham VTCT GCP

Apitherapy another ancient treatment is showing to have good results when it comes to helping cure tennis elbow.

Apitherapy is the therapeutic use of honey bee products and is a practice that goes all the way back to the ancient Egyptian and Greek societies. Royal jelly was revered for maintaining vigor and preserving youthful skin.

Aristotle was one of the first to write about royal jelly and the ancient Greeks used it in one of their most famous elixirs; 'Ambrosia' which was said to bestow immortality upon the gods.

Man has been consuming bee products throughout the centuries and in the 1600's Swammerdam, a Dutch scholar was the first to study a live hive under a magnifying glass. He noticed what an important part royal jelly played in the hive as the queen bee was fed on it.

Modern scientific research has discovered that royal jelly and other bee products have many health benefits that go far beyond maintaining vigor and younger looking skin. Royal Jelly is a combination of honey and bee pollen, combined with enzymes. It chemical composition contains amongst other things:

Saccharides - Glucids: fructose and glucose in equal amounts.

Fatty acids - lipids: including hydroxytransdecenoic acid, which is anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-germinative.

Minerals: calcium, iron, and potassium.

Vitamins: all the B vitamins, especially B5 -royal jelly is the richest natural source known; vitamins B12, vitamin C, and the fat soluble vitamins are also present in lesser quantities.

Acetylcholine: in large quantities (also one of the body's own natural neurotransmitters that calms the body) gives royal jelly is calmative and vascular properties that are useful in treating circulatory disorders that affect the elderly and helping the nervous system to relax.

Other elements: include gamma-globulin that assists he immune system in disease resistance.

Great breakthroughs are also being made in other bee products for therapeutic purposes. Bee venom therapy is showing to be a very effective therapy because of its anti-inflammatory and neurostransmitter properties.

Working the acupressure/acupuncture and nerve meridian points while combining the properties of the stings is thought to be the most effective way of using this therapy which is now used as a treatment for many different diseases.

'The Journal of the American Apitherapy Society' give regular updates on studies around the world using apitherapy to treat illnesses and injuries whilst controlled clinical studies are being undertaken by Georgetown University relating to apitherapy and MS.

In addition to royal jelly and bee venom, honey, propolis, pollen and "bee bread" have also been used as effective treatments for illness and wounds. The results of these trials are showing the effectiveness of apitherapy in treating many conditions including helping to cure tennis elbow.

Beat Stress Without Medications

By Harold Ulvaeus

When life happens in ways that make us feel less than secure, stress is the normal reaction. Stress is the underlying cause of many of our medical conditions, not to mention psychological conditions. Allowing stress level to build can have serious long term effects along with a lessened quality of life.

Frequently, medication is typically the first option of the allopathic medical practitioner. While medication may be a quick fix, it doesn't work for everyone, has side effects and does not teach the person how to deal with the stress.

Those who don't want to go the medication route will be happy to know there are other ways to beat stress that don't involve the act of popping pills every day. There are several different options to choose from to lessen the negative consequences stress can bring.

Taking a long walk to clear your head is one of the best ways to alleviate stress. Walking is an excellent form of exercise for your body as well as your mind. You can walk out your frustration so that you'll be able to come back refreshed and tackle your problems again.

Music. Music effects us in many ways. Classical music has shown to lower blood pressure, upbeat music can get you smiling when you feel blue. Listening to music is a wonderful way to give your brain a much needed break.

The overload can cause stress to escalate and bring on a number of problems for us, so give it a break. Listening to relaxing music will ease the racing thoughts and help us to think clearly when we return to our problems.

Find something you really enjoy doing and make sure you do it at least once per week.Doing something we enjoy puts us into a totally different mindset where our outlook on things will be quite different and a lot more positive. Having something fun to look forward to makes it easier to get through stressful days when life is too much.

Starting a fun craft project, playing tennis, having a girls night out, take dancing lessons.... or get a massage. Massages are a terrific way to melt away accumulated stress. So is Yoga. Stress is stores in our tissues and when thgose tissues are kneaded or stretched the stress simply flows away.

Don't be afraid to let your emotions surface. If you're so stressed that you want to cry, then let those tears flow. Built up stress has to come out somehow, so it's a lot safer to let it out through tears than to wait until it explodes into uncontrollable anger.

When feeling angry, smacking a punching bag, os beating your couch with a foam baseball bat is a very safe way to release anger, one of the more detrimental emotions to keep bottled up. You can beat that stress by learning what works for you. You will be much more happy, and so will your body with a lowered stress level.

Meditation takes time and practice to polish, but once mastered, can be a great tool to help relieve your intelligence of strains and let you feel at peace.

The first step to correct meditation is good posture. Sitting cross legged with your back straight but not tensed is the correct way to sit. Then place your right hand in your left four finger widths below the navel, thumbs a touch raised. The thumbs are to touch. The tongue should be touching the roof of the mouth to prevent dryness. Your head should be looking downward and eyes should be slightly open. Lastly, your shoulders should be level with your elbows. This is the right position to sit in when you meditate. Getting it right will help you to focus, though it could take some time to get used to.

After learning your proper meditation posture, easy meditation may start. When first starting to meditate, concentrate on your respiring. Keep your breaths steady as you inhale and exhale. For stress relief, each time a breath is drawn outward image all the negativity and negative thoughts you have are being drawn out of you.
